Our aim at St Michael’s is to develop the children’s skills of designing, making and evaluating their work.
Children will advance their technical knowledge of structure, mechanical systems and electrical systems. Projects are planned within a relative context to ensure children have a ‘real life’ purpose for their design. While undertaking practical activities children will use a range of tools and develop skills such as cutting, shaping, joining and finishing. They will also have opportunities to evaluate their own and others work. As part of the design and technology curriculum children will be taught the crucial life skill of cooking and will be given opportunities to apply what they have learnt about nutrition and healthy eating.
