Our aim at St Michael’s is to introduce children to a variety of music genres and periods, giving them the opportunity to discuss and question what they are listening to, and then use what they have learnt in their own music making. They will learn the skills required to play a selection of tuned and untuned percussion instruments and develop a tuneful singing voice.
We aim to teach all children to read musical notation and use notation in their own musical compositions. The children are given opportunities to creatively explore their musical ideas and perform to others regularly, allowing for self-reflection, praise and improvement. St Michael’s also offers tuition in violin, flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, trumpet and trombone, plus a weekly choir practice.
