The plan for funding of sport using the Sport Premium grant is as follows:
Purchasing of new equipment
New equipment is to be purchased to continue to support the curriculum and children’s activities in the playground. Using the Sainsbury’s Active Life scheme it is our intention to acquire some hurdles so that we will be able train effectively, ready for the athletic season. We are also purchasing floodlights for the MUGA to enable us to play sports when it becomes dark in the winter. The playground in Key Stage 2 is going to have a netball court marked out with paint and the Key Stage 1 playground is going to have some playground games painted on it, such as Hopscotch. We also intent to buy a full, floor to ceiling dividing curtain for the main hall, which will then allow us to teach two classes in there at one time.
Entrance fees will again be paid to enter the children in a wide range of competitions including football, tag rugby, cross-country, netball, swimming, rounder’s and Town Sports. This will enabled competition with other schools and for the children to take pride in representing St Michael’s, on a wider stage.
Training for Staff
A PE Instructor will continue to train all teaching staff to use the new curriculum that has been introduced (designed by our Sports Teacher). This will begin during the INSET days in September2017. The first activity will focus on how dance movement is to be taught in the school.
Enabling children to take responsibility
A “Playmakers” scheme will be introduced to allow the children to take a role in sports provision in the school during the lunchtime period. Especially developing Level 1 competitions within school.
