In light of the recent government updates for children of primary school age, I have set out below our provision for the remainder of the school year in order to maximise the offer of a school place to as many children as we can.
As you are aware, the government has concluded that it will not be possible for all children to return, but have asked schools to look at what provision they could make for other children. Having carefully considered how we can do this and keep to the restrictions placed upon schools by the DfE’s latest guidance, I am pleased to be able to make an offer of a school place to children in Year 2. Regrettably, we do not have sufficient capacity (of classrooms or teachers) to offer to other year groups, however, we have alternative plans for these children (please see below).
To parents and carers of children in Years 1 & 2
We have spare capacity in our Year 1 groups which I will offer to Year 2 children – to start on Monday 22 June. We realise that this is a quick turnaround but we wish to maximise the amount of time children can spend in school for the remainder of this term.
If you have a child in Year 1 who is not yet attending school and you would like them to take up a place, you must notify the school by noon on Friday 19 June. It may not be possible to have a school place after this point.
If you have a child in Year 2 and you wish to take up the offer of a school place, you should complete the Google form on the school website before noon on Friday 19 June, after which point it will be closed. Please be aware that there are likely to be limited places and we may not be able to offer to everyone who wants a place.
Year 2 children who are offered a school place will start on Monday 22 June. You will be sent further information by email over the weekend regarding start and finish times. You should also refer to the School reopening – risk assessment on our website.
To parents and carers of children in Years 3 to 5
All the staff at school are missing their pupils and I believe that it would be very beneficial for your children to have some face-to-face contact with their teacher and some school friends in a setting that enables them to socially distance.
We are therefore offering the children in years 3 – 5 the opportunity to meet in a group of 5 with their class teacher for a period of half an hour, once a week for the last 4 weeks of this term. The sessions will take place outside in accordance with the current guidance for safe social interaction and social distancing. Although these are relatively short sessions, we believe the children’s interaction with their teacher and peers will help to support them to transition to their next year group in September and will also, most importantly, serve to let your child know that they are missed by all the staff at school. These sessions will start the week beginning 22 June.
I hope that you will take up this offer by contacting the school office (01202 290497) to book a place for your child in one of these sessions. Please see the table below for available slots for your child’s class. Keep to the same time slot each week.
To parents and carers of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
I must congratulate all the children who have returned to school so far, for the marvellous way they have adapted to the new school rules, the need to wash hands more regularly and socially distance. I have been extremely impressed with the behaviour and attitude displayed in all year groups.
I would also like to recognise the outstanding job school staff have done in helping the children settle back into school whist still maintaining the home learning on the website.
If you have a child in Reception or Year 6 we still have a few places available – please contact the school office. As mentioned above, places in Year 1 will be ‘capped’ as of noon on 19 June.

To all parents and carers
In order to get the school ready to receive all children in September, the last day of term will be Thursday 16 July. I am sure that you will appreciate that there is a great deal of furniture to be put back into classrooms on top of the usual preparations for the start of a new school year.
We are planning for a return of all children in September, although no one can say for sure if this will be the case, and if not, we will adjust our preparations for beginning the new school year accordingly and keep you updated.
Understandably, it will not be possible for children to meet their new teacher in person this term. However, the teachers will be posting a video to introduce themselves and welcome the children to their new class. This will be available on the school website from Thursday 9 July along with information to let you know who your child’s teacher is next year.
We are currently working on plans to support the children’s return in September. Given the social distancing we have all been experiencing in recent months, we do not believe it would be a positive beginning for the children to start the school day in September all together as this may be overwhelming for some. We will therefore continue with a staggered start as we are currently doing. This means that all children can return to school on Monday 7 September but at staggered times between 8:30am and 9:00am. We will send out more details about your start and finish times before the end of this term. We will continue to monitor government guidance to ensure that our plans are in-line with government advice.
Finally, I would like to thank you for all you have done, and continue to do, to support your child’s education. If no one has told you what a great job you are doing yet, then allow me to be the first to do so!
