At St Michael’s we aim to provide a stimulating curriculum based around half termly topics. We enhance our curriculum by offering pupils the opportunity for numerous off-site visits over the course of the year. We view these as integral to the learning experiences that pupils can expect at St Michael’s Primary School.
Children receive daily English and Mathematics lessons. We look for every opportunity to enhance the teaching of English by relating it to our topics as well as teaching it as a discrete subject.
Some subjects are taught alongside each other through a theme or topic. Subjects such as History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology and Science lend themselves well to this approach. These subjects are taught in depth during the topic. The school ensures that over the academic year all pupils receive a balanced curriculum which meets the requirements laid down in the National Curriculum. No more than three subjects are taught in any one topic.
Other subjects are taught discretely. These include subjects such as Music, PE and RE.
